Abstract
Verse 34 of An-Nisa Surah has been one of the most challenging verses among Islamic commentators and thinkers, with sometimes different and conflicting opinions expressed in the interpretation of this verse. This study seeks to examine the interpretative opinions of one of the Qur'an scholars of the Indian subcontinent, Ghulam Ahmad Parviz, regarding this verse in order to determine the accuracy and validity of his interpretative methods and opinions. The interpretation of “man and woman” in this verse as referring to men and women in society and not husband and wife, the interpretation of “manager” as serving men, the exclusive application of “guarding the secret” to protecting the fetus, and the application of “rebellious” to women’s disobedience in society and “beat” to judicial punishment are among his most important opinions regarding this blessed verse. It seems that considering the context of the verse, the narrations, and the specific meaning of the words used in this blessed verse, these opinions face serious criticism.
