Abstract

In regard to the contextual  meaning  and  structure  of the  Qur'an,  both  can  be  devided  into  three  categories:  1.  the  integrated  chapters revealed in a single phase of revelation, 2. the chapters whose  thematic units (ruku`at) were revealed successively, and 3. the compiled chapters whose thematic units have not been revealed successively, rather, some verses from other chapters were revealed in between. The Prophet has always referred this revelation and gradual communication under the instruction and supervision of Divine inspiration to the instantaneous (daf` ) revelation of the Qur'an on Laylat al-Qadr  (the  Night  of Ordainment).
On that basis, he has determined, compiled,  and  arranged  the  chapters and the verses in a completely organized oral collection  called  the ''Qur'an", with the written text named the ''Mus haf''.
