There has been much discussions about the signs of Imam Mahdi's (Aj.) reappearance, particularly Sufyan as the most renowned of all. However, there has been no historical scrutiny so far into this issue in respect to the false Sufyan s. Reviewing the narrations concerning one of these indications (the appearance of Sufyan ), the present article tries to compare these traditions with the historical reports regarding the Sufyan s, with respect to the fact that the appearance of Sufyan is the most important and famous sign widely mentioned in old and new sources for the reappearance of Imam Mahd (Aj.).
