During the turbulent Caliphate of the Abbasid Ma’mūn, the only one who was able to call the Muslim community to unity was Imam al-Rizā (A.S.). He would far-sightedly adopt a stance in any arising opportunity that could reduce the grounds for disunity and divergence among the Muslims. In this article, attempts are made to analyze the role of Imam al-Rizā (A.S.) from this standpoint.
