The Roots and Backgrounds of Belief in the Sufficiency of the Qur’an Interpretation

Author

Abstract

Sufficiency of the Qur'an as an interpretation trend, which has found its way in some exegetical approaches of Indian subcontinent, Arabic countries, and Iran, has considerable roots which can be traced through intellectual and religious genealogy. The author believes that the backgrounds of this trend can be traced back to the time of the Apostle of Allah (S.A.W.). Meanwhile, the role of the orientalists in laying the foundation and insinuating the idea of enmity against tradition, and hadīth criticism in the past two centuries is not to be overlooked.
