In this article one of the influential and widespread trends in the exegesis of the Holy Qur'an, which takes a serious look at the rational approach to Revelation on one hand, and the objective application of revealed doctrines to the society's needs and queries, on the other, is identified and analyzed. What we mention here as "the socio-rational approach to exegesis" is considered to be centered around the "Almanār" school of Egypt and similar trends in some other Arabic countries, Indian Subcontinent, and Iran. In fact, the present article has, as a step toward the study and pathology of significant exegetical trends, explored into the nature of the above trend and its expanse in both Sunnīsm and Shī‘īsm as well as its internal and external origins and backgrounds.
