Return to God, the Resultant of Hope and Fear

Author

Abstract

Fear (khawf) of the punishment for one's deeds and hope (raja) for Divine forgiveness is an incentive to man's move towards God, the precious result of which would be repentance and cleansing of wrongdoings.
Employing the Qur'anic verses and the traditions, the writer of the present article has explained the meaning of khawf and raja and regarded the return to God as their practical outcome and resultant. Enumerating various types of repentance, she concludes that repentance is not merely an individual matter and independent from social duties; rather, it is acceptable on the condition that squandered rights of others be discharged, which will not be fulfilled except through the satisfaction of the latter.
