Mashhad Grand Mosque of Gawharshad is one of the famous mosques in Iran and in the Muslim world, which because of its specific artistic and architectural features stands out as an epitome of Islamic culture and art in the Timurid period.
This superb and ancient building was constructed by order of the beneficent lady, Gawharsha d Agha, Shahrukh Mirza's wife, around six hundred years ago. After such a long time, this structure is still firmly standing upright and as one of the renowned historical and cultural monuments in Iran and the Muslim world is attracting the attention of the pilgrims, tourists, and archeologists.
In terms of construction, tile-work, architectural style, and interior and exterior decorations, this mosque has been very distinguished with all its walls and doors being ornamented with Divine names, Qur'anic verses, noble traditions, poems, and eulogies in honor of the Ahl al-Bayt. The ornaments, inscribed by great calligraphers such as Baysunqur and Ima mi Isfaha ni, are representing the Islamic culture.
