Saeb Tabrizi, one of the prominent ghazal poets of the Indian style in the eleventh century AH, was a religiously oriented poet who, alongside his linguistic and imagistic innovations, was deeply influenced by the teachings of the Qur’an and Islamic traditions. The present study, focusing on the motif of dunya (the world) in his ghazals, seeks to answer the question of which religious teachings underlie this motif and through what images it is represented. Conducted through a descriptive–analytical method within the framework of content analysis, the research findings demonstrate that the motif of dunya in Saeb’s poetry is depicted through three major Qur’anic and Hadith-based perspectives: a negative outlook (with high frequency), which regards the world as deceptive and transient; an intermediate outlook, which views the world as a passage of reflection, a realm of trial, and a site of spiritual elevation; and a positive outlook, which considers the world as an opportunity for conscious servitude and preparation for the Hereafter. Overall, it can be acknowledged that Saeb, by combining the rhetorical elements of the Indian style with a religious worldview, represents the motif of dunya in his ghazals in alignment with Qur’anic and Hadith teachings.
