"The story of ProphetʿUzayr (Ezra) in verse 259of Surah al-Baqarah is among theQur'anic narratives that poses a serious interpretive challenge. This research examines and compares the exegetical perspectives of al-Manār and Tasnīm, focusing on whether the event of death and revival of the person mentioned in the verse is factual or allegorical, using a descriptive-analytical method.Aiming to resolve the methodological conflict between the two paradigms of allegory and realism, this article takes the story ofʿUzayr as a case study to assess the efficacy of these two theories. The findings indicate that from the fourth century(AH),a symbolic interpretation of the verse emerged, paving the way for interpretive evolution, to the extent that by the sixth century, the verb amāta (He caused to die) was interpreted as sleep. In the contemporary period, Tafsīr al-Manār, adopting a rationalist approach and drawing on the concept of subāt (prolonged unconsciousness), interprets amātahu as 'sleep or deep, prolonged stupor' and baʿathahu as the return from that state. His student, Rashīd Riḍā, goes further by explicitly proposing the possibility that the entire story is allegorical, serving as an expression of divine power. In contrast, Tafsīr Tasnīm, through a text-based method and reliance on the explicit literal meanings of key terms such as amātahu and baʿathahu, regards the story as real and miraculous. This reading considers the verse's purpose to be providing an objective, sensory proof for the possibility of resurrection
