Verbal argumentation in defense of opinions and viewpoints constitutes one of the modes of human interaction. Should this instrument of interaction deviate due to a lack of knowledge, it paves the way for fostering enmities and distancing from truth. The present study, employing thematic content analysis and aiming to provide an epistemological explication of the causes and consequences of "reprehensible disputation" (jadāl madhmūm) and "commendable disputation" (jadāl aḥsan) in the Holy Quran as a guiding text, seeks to address the question: What are the thematic axes of the Quranic network concerning disputation in dialogue? The research findings indicate that reprehensible disputation (with high frequency) is a multifaceted phenomenon bearing epistemological, ethical, and eschatological consequences. This type of disputation arises from disbelief (kufr), lack of monotheism (tawḥīd), ignorance, arrogance, and satanic temptation. In contrast, commendable disputation represents a constructive dialogue grounded in rationality, truth-seeking, and benevolence, leading to proximity to truth, guidance, and attainment of divine mercy. Consequently, commendable disputation serves as the ideal model for religious-human dialogue in pursuit of truth, justice, and discursive ethics.
