The subject of the present research is studying the concept of a hadith that is popular in the scholars’ parlance as “The scholars’ pen is superior to the martyrs’ blood”. Although the issue itself is true and well-documented, it is apparently reported otherwise in Shī‘a hadith collections. The superiority of scholars’ pen to the martyrs’ blood, which is in fact referring to the contents transfused from their pens and the statements left behind by them, is an issue that is provable by many traditions addressing the status of religious scholars and the value of their works.
The point that may be brought up as an objection is how it would be possible that the self-sacrifice in the way of the truth and in guarding the frontiers and life of the people of an Islamic society be less valued than writing and researching on religious teachings and defending them against the theoretical and practical doubts. Indeed, it is yet to be answered as to whether guarding the frontiers of beliefs is superior to guarding the frontiers of homeland? Which one is the core and which one the periphery? In this article such discourses are dealt with and the superiority of the people of pen is made clear.
There is no doubt that the religious scholars have assumed serious responsibility, which in every age and period should consider the demands of the time and this is in the present time more sensitive with the rise of soft war
