Al-Durr al-Manthūr has been one of the exegetical sources of ‘Allāma Tabātabā’ī in writing his Al-Mīzān. On the other hand, a considerable part of Tafsīr al-Mīzān deals with the traditions of this book. Accordingly, ‘Allāma has critically reviewed the traditions in two ways: 1. Reviewing the traditions alone (i.e., without employing the Suyūtī’s way of using the traditions), and 2. Receiving the Suyūtī’s ijtahād and the way he employed traditions. Thus, on some occasions, he has confirmed the traditions of this book for certain reasons such as: consistency with the Qur’ān, concordance with his own exegetical views, and compatibility with the sound traditions of the Infallibles (A.S.); and sometimes criticized and rejected them for reasons such as: inconsistency with the Qur’ān and sunna, being fabricated, and lacking competence for interpretation of the āya.
