No scholarly work, however highly creditable, is free from criticism, and this would not ruin the scholarly status of the author, either. The late Ustad Muhsin Shānachī's ‘Ilm al-Hadīth wa Dirāyat al-Hadīth enjoys a special stand among the works on hadīth. This article takes a critical look at the above book, through which the writer has found certain instances which, according to his arguments, are not compatible with the historico-hadīth standards.
