In the present article, first, the importance of the "unequivocal and the ambiguous" in the Qur'an is dealt with from three perspectives of practical and educational, scientific and theoretical, and the fundamental challenges in tafsīr (interpretation); and then, the history of research about it is pointed out. In the course of development of the issue, the most important works on the two fields of verbal and semantic ambiguity (tashābuh) are introduced, and the contemporary works have also been dealt with.
