The issue of attributing trick to God is one of the challenging interpretive and theological issues that, at first glance, appears incompatible with the principles of purity and divine wisdom. Since trick has a negative meaning and concept in human usage, its use to describe God's action in phrases such as "but God is tricking them" (4:142) has led commentators to various reflections. The present study, with an analytical-critical approach and with the aim of investigating the nature of this relationship, has collected, explained, and critically analyzed the interpretive views of fifteen prominent commentators and has tried to reach an explanation consistent with Qur’anic and rational foundations by evaluating the arguments. The results of the research show that existing interpretive perspectives, including reward, omission, rhetorical, and metaphorical analysis, each cover only part of the issue and are unable to completely resolve the apparent conflict alone. Finally, the research, utilizing the structure of the verses and the foundations of the divine traditions, proposes an innovative perspective, according to which divine trick is not an independent and primary act from God; rather, it is the deceptive act issued by the deceiver, which is returned to him in the structure of the divine penal traditions; an analysis that is also consistent with reason, justice, and the Qur’anic revelation.
